Glenn E. Yingling, (W2UW) 84, a long time resident of Newark Valley, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012. Glenn married his high school sweetheart Cornelia (Connie) Bell on Jan 31, 1948. Connie survives him as do his children Dr. David (Cindy) Yingling, Cape Girardeau, MO and their children: Michael, Sara, Meghan and Daniel; Patricia Weidberg, Albany, NY and her daughter Amy; Carolyn (Kenneth) Goldfarb, Catskill, NY, and their children, Kira and Joshua, 4 great grand children: Andrew, Anna, Blake and Janiya; his brother Earl (Jane) Yingling of Titusville, PA, brother-in-law, Alfred Sterling, his cousin Burl (Shirley) Henry and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Bertrelle Yingling and his sister Lois Sterling. Glenn was a graduate of Titusville, PA High School, class of 1945. As a young man, he assisted his father and uncle in the operation of Yingling’s Dairy in Titusville. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW II in Germany as a cook and later as a communication specialist. He was a graduate of Grove City College, Grove City PA and was employed as an Electrical Engineer at IBM Federal Systems Division for more than 30 years. He has been a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Newark Valley, serving on the Board of Trustees and continued serving for many years as a volunteer, repairing and maintaining items for the church. He was an avid electronics hobbyist and a holder of an Extra Class Amateur Radio License and a First Class FCC Radiotelephone License. He also invented a unique bookmark for which he obtained a patent. Glenn was a kindly neighbor, always willing to repair broken items and also share his culinary accomplishments with friends and family. A Celebration of Glenn’s Life will be held on Monday at 2 pm with his pastor, Rev. Nancy Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley where military honors will be accorded. His family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.
